My Work

I make websites! Give me a design, or even just a concept, and I’ll scutter off into a room for a while then come out with a fully working site that you can publish on the web.

Ok, so that’s simplifying the process somewhat but what I’m saying is that I am generalist developer rather than someone who specialises in one particular aspect of the process. I find that most clients want a one-stop shop, rather than having too many hands in a project which often leads to things taking more time and higher costs.

Types of website

I build bespoke websites for each client. ‘Off-the-shelf’ solutions are too restrictive and I like to build what people want rather than moulding their requirements into something that’s been pre-prepared.

I develop all manner of sites from simple online brochures to full e-commerce solutions, intranets and complex web applications.

Design that stands out

I do enjoy visualising websites but I usually have other designers who produce art work for me. As a developer my job is replicating these designs on-screen to ensure the finished product canĀ match the original visual as closely as possible.

Languages

I have thorough knowledge and great experience of programming PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, HTML and CSS. Those are the core technologies I use for every website.

I also have experience using web services and XML as methods of communicating data. I never shy away from the opportunity to learn something new if it’s required for a particular project.

Reliability

Anyone who’s either employed me or worked alongside me would vouch for my reliability. Once I’ve agreed to do something it has my full commitment and if I’m in the middle of a task I’m certainly not the kind of person who drops everything just because 5 o’clock has come round.

Meeting the standards

There are many web browsers running on all kinds of different operating systems. An important aspect of web development is creating websites that look correct and function properly regardless of how the user is doing their browsing.

I also do all that I can to meet accessibility guidelines. Regardless of whether or not you think it’s necessary to make your website compliant with such guidelines, the fact remains that it’s very good practice to ensure you’re not inadvertently tuning potential customers away. Well coded websites also tend to be more accessible to search engines.

Communication

I consider myself to be a good copy writer, although I can sometimes waffle on for pages unless curbed! This is not only useful for writing web pages and on-screen labels but it also helps communication with clients, since email is the primary method of contact.

All-round service

I am usually involved in web projects right from the word go, offering suggestions and advice in the initial concept meetings.

I have an excellent eye for detail which is an important part of generating accurate code and testing/proofing finished products.

I am able to provide server support, including (but not limited to) setting up servers, domains and email accounts.
